Frequently Asked Questions

How long are sessions?

Sessions are typically 50 minutes long, though your therapist may recommend 75 minute sessions in the future.  Longer sessions may be more appropriate for couples therapy, family therapy, or more intensive treatment.  Group sessions typically last 90 minutes.

How long does therapy last?

Treatment length varies with the nature of the identified treatment goals. Your therapist will review his or her recommendations for an estimated timeframe with you prior to starting treatment.

How will I know if treatment is working?

Clear and measurable goals are critical to the success of a case.  Early in treatment, we will work with you to develop a treatment plan this is best for you and your family.  We will then revisit the plan often to ensure that treatment is advancing toward a positive conclusion.

I am on medication or considering starting medication … can therapy help me?

Absolutely! It is not uncommon for people to use medications such as SSRI antidepressants (Prozac, Lexapro, and Paxil), ati-anxiety agents (such as Xanax and Klonopin), or ADHD (such as Adderall, Ritalin, or Concerta) while in therapy. In many cases, therapy can provide additional benefits beyond those offered by the medication. Therapy may also be helpful for those desiring to conclude medication. We always recommend that you discontinue medication under the recommendation of a psychiatrist or physician. Please notify your therapist if you are taking medication or plan to start taking medication while you’re in treatment.
